San Luis Joins the Earth Hour
San Luis de la Paz, Gto. Saturday, March 31, 2012. The lights were turned off at the Matamoros Esplanade, and with the glow of candles, the Ludovicenses demonstrated their concern for the natural phenomena that the inappropriate use of electricity generates in the planet. During the 60 minutes that lasted the blackout, there was an entertaining spectacle with stilt walkers, fire jugglers, mimes and videos. The program was undertaken by the Municipal Direction of Protection of the Environment and the Ludovicense Cultural Center.
Before the Earth Hour, the people enjoyed the talent of Leon de Marco, who performed beautiful flamenco music melodies. His participation was recognized by the City Mayor Javier Becerra and Gerardo Sanchez, In Charge of the Culture House Office.
8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 was the countdown executed by the citizens, to turn the lights off and begin the evening of awareness. Candles on the floor forming the number 60 were lit; representing the minutes that the Esplanade remained in darkness.
During this time, there were fire jugglers, characters dressed up in stilts, mimes, and 2 informative videos. The public participated actively by getting on stage to dance and interact with the artists. At the conclusion, the Mayor turned on the light of the representative earth globe and handed out a diploma to the Director of Protection of the Environment, Fernando Ortega.
