Lent Begins with Ash Wednesday

San Luis de la Paz, Gto. Wednesday, February 22, 2012.  (By: Jose Omar García Hernández) - "Repent and believe in the Gospel" expressed the priest at the time he placed ash on our forehead.  With this signal that we are human and someday we will perish, Catholics welcomed Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent.  For the ritual, local temples received numerous parishioners throughout the course of the day.

In the streets of the city, you could see people wearing ash on their face, showing their faith and pride in being a believer.  In some of them, ash was not visible, because it was on their hair.  It depended on which church they attended or priest placed the ash.  On this day, the temples were busy, specially the two parishes, San Luis Rey and La Virgencita.  But all temples displayed the purple color used in these 40 days.
